How many times will I get “an exclusive invite” to OC6? Don’t they read my feed? 🙄

I really want to “take advantage” of Nikon’s “Trade up to Z” promo, where I could trade in my D750 for credit toward a Z6. It boils down to ~$1000 cost (since I’d get a lens adaptor and would keep using my current prime lens). So much money, though …

A good article highlighting the rot at the heart of US Colleges, the dominance of football (“80 Years Ago, a Football Powerhouse Ditched the Sport as a ‘Crass’ Distraction. Why Haven’t More Colleges Followed Suit?”) #endtheNCAA

This article about learning to bike in the Netherlands makes me so happy … I love biking assertively here in Atlanta (probably will be the death of me) to and fro work … but now I want to live there!

The good part about often making dumb typos in your code is that you develop some fine (and high speed) debugging skills. So there’s that. #IGaveTheStudentsMyBrokenSampleCode

ACM UIST conference is in New Orleans in Oct. I’m looking forward to it, because I love both UIST and New Orleans.

But academics can be so unwise at conferences; I’m going to be taking my X100F, and pondering what I should call the photo series. “Academics Gone Wild?”

At Alabama, the appearance of students as props in the end zone, and a happy football coach, are both more important that student’s privacy rights.

Yet another reason to #endtheNCAA

Finally replacing the Gateron Red (linear) switches with Kailh Speed Bronze (light clicky) ones. I hate typing on the linear ones, vs the clicky.

This coming Thursday, there’s a Democratic Debate, and the Atlanta Reign are playing an elimination playoff game in the finals of OWL.

Such a hard choice. I’d really like to see what Warren has to say. But unless she brushes up on her aim and tracking, that’s unlikely to happen

There you have it.

Flight music to Seattle is @todrick‬, of course. When you are trapped in a flying metal tube, what else?

I finally looked up what bullet journalling is, since everyone is talking about it.

Isn’t it just SCRUM-for-ONE, ANALOG-Edition?

“Throwback to to my youth” concert last night … 3 bands, each been together 40+ years. A lot of fun, good food, good time with friends. Berlin, OMD and headliner B-52s.

Went to a concert last night … this is what a modern concert looks like …

We must reduce our reliance on (and use of) Carbon. In CS, we are not leading on that, esp the frequency and implementation of our conferences.

This has to change.

I’m working on this now, as are others (I’m quoted in this Physics Today article)

Wow, it’s amazing what a small amount of “forward weight” does; the @oculus Quest is super uncomfortable after a short while.

At one level, it’s an amazing technical achievement. But I prefer my VR to come without cheek and neck pain.

VR still isn’t here.

Tonight’s desert is out of the ice cream maker and in the freezer. Two flavors of coconut milk + eggs based ice cream (bourbon brown sugar and vanilla with dark chocolate)

Pouring some champagne to make sorbet. Yes, that’s some good bubbly, and yes, I mixed it with a ton each of sugar and made some damn fine sorbet

I am having such a hard time getting my head around this comic… mostly that someone has made 46 episodes of a manga where all the characters are web browsers https://m.webtoons.com/en/challenge/internet-explorer/ep-45-microsoft-vs-google-part-2/viewer?title_no=219164&episode_no=70&webtoon-platform-redirect=true

My Connect.Tech talk “WebXR: an Introduction to Mixed Reality on the Web” is scheduled for Friday OCt 18th at 2:30pm. Looking forward to it!

Today’s “oblivious students at GT”: had a student step in front of my bike in the bike lane without looking, and another do the same think on a dockless scooter. Hopefully my electronic “bell” (loud, meant for cars) taught them something (perhaps just something about laundry)

Someone commented that they preferred Huel to Soylent, so I picked some up. After trying both the chocolate and the vanilla, let’s put it this way: anyone want some Huel?

Thick, insipidly sweet, artificial aftertaste. It’s pretty awful.

Soylet is bland, innocuous. Yum.

Class went well today; it was the “transformations, matrices, homogeneous coordinates and so on” class, which I made a bit more fun by having them fiddle with CSS3 transform matrices by hand … tech working well right now, so I’m thinking I may install iOS 13 beta on my phone

And today’s fun factoid from the Morning Brew: meatless meat has fully spread into fast food.

I created a discord server for my CS3451 (Computer Graphics) class. We’re using web tech, and during class I made a joke about how the Javascript book is huge and the “Javascript: The Good Parts” book is tiny.

This appeared in the “random” channel. 💯
