Playing with cocktails for a dinner party tonight. Variations on a Vesper and Paper Plane that use the fresh oranges my cousin sent from Florida (candied garnish in both, fresh squeezed orange instead of lemon in the Paper Plane)

The bright side of being “too busy to the point of thrashing” is that I got those pesky New Years resolutions failed-and-out-of-the-way super early this year.

Pleased to have finally decided to start using Jumbo. I’ve set Facebook posts to archive after a month (not that I post there, but “whatever”) and tweets after two months. www.theverge.com/2019/4/9/…

The first attempt at egg nog ice cream was a bit too icy so I’m adding a shot of something to the base recipe to keep it a little softer (and add a bit of complexity to the flavor)

In random holiday news, my wife and I had a laughing-to-tears I-can’t-believ-you-did-that water fight while getting read for bed last night. Totally wasn’t my fault.

Finally finished getting up the most basic set of Christmas lights. The combo of a late Thanksgiving, and a super-busy end of fall, really took it’s toll. But at least there’s something up. We were missing our snowflakes and reindeer. (And R2 and Yoda).

I love fancy food. But for my birthday, it must be @publix Red Velvet cake with Cream Cheese icing. Apparently some others in my family know the right way to eat it, too

I admit that of all the ice creams I’ve made this past year, this egg of ice cream is pretty darn good. Here’s the recipe: pour a carton of this in the machine

Speaking on a Panel at the OpenSimulator Community Conference tomorrow at 12:30pst. Talking about how hubs.mozilla.com works, and how we are using it (and planning to use it) for conferences. conference.opensimulator.org/2019/even…

When I cooked a can of condensed milk to make dulce de leche, I actually cooked two … now I’m fantasizing about what to make with it over the holidays (probably more ice cream!)

I do love this simple Dulce de Leche “recipe” (if “bring to boil water then simmer can on condensed milk for 3 hours” can be called a recipe).

I kickstarted v1 and v2 of the @Paperlike screen protectors. Got the Paperlike2 last night and it’s as good as I hoped! I’d been without a Paperlike on my newer iPad Pro; my students will be happy my virtual whiteboard will become legible again, as will my OneNote bullet journal

Breakfast this morning. Continuing my daughter’s weekend of cooking adventures, we made Croque Monsieur’s this morning. Cheesy, hammy, toasty goodness.

Dinner last night. My teenage daughter has been obsessing over Bon Appetite Test Kitchen videos, and decided she wanted to make Pasta al Limone (added a Charcuterie plate and asparagus with cashews to round things out) www.bonappetit.com/recipe/pa…

It’s only a matter of time until “Ok, GenXer” becomes the new “Ok, Boomer” … I escaped “Ok, Boomer” status by a few years, but I know my time is coming.

I was doing a lecture on curves in my 3D graphics class, and needed an example of a complex curved line to illustrate the need for piecewise curves. So, naturally, Jeremy Bearimy

I was showing a web page on my laptop, and a background tab started playing audio. It was surprising but innocuous. I closed it and said “well, that could have been a lot worse” and the whole class burst into laughter … uncomfortable laughter … kids these days #notwhatimeant

Hi. I’m Stella. I would like some of your breakfast, please.

I gotta say, I do like using a good camera for my “web cam” … me on zoom a few days ago.

After another random conversation with @larsberg_, I resurrected my favorite fountain pens. Left is a lovely compact Pelican, middle is a cheap Waterman that none-the-less writes beautifully, and the right is (can’t remember brand) that feels lovely

Been trying to figure out how to fix my “streaming video camera” setup (Canon SL3 is problematic). I haven’t found anything that quite fits the “features + price” zone I’m targeting. Considering a Nikon Z50.

All the camera research is making me want to upgrade my D750 to a Z6

playing with the new Fuji X-A7 + f2 35mm lens I got to use as my “webcam”

For Surveillance Economy companies, the low bar should at least be “More trustworthy than Facebook”. Shockingly, some don’t even reach that.

Google buys Fitbit. Fitbit assures customers data will remain separate and not be used for Google ads. Just like Nest did when it was acquired. And that never happened … oh, wait, nevermind

Ok, I think the time has come to admit that as much as Mastodon appeals to me, I’m not using it. Shutting down macmynatt.social … bye bye
